At the current rate, roads will kill 2.4 million people by 2030.<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMPARE<\/strong>: Mortality &#8211; <a title=\"deaths-from-road-crashes-in-the-world\" href=\"https:\/\/www.planetoscope.com\/mortalite\/1270-mortalite---morts-d-accidents-de-la-route-dans-le-monde.html\">Deaths-from-road-crashes-in-the-world<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Infant mortality<\/h3>\n<p>32 \/ 1000<\/p>\n<p>The world&#8217;s infant mortality rate was 122 per 1000 in 1960 and 32 per 1000 in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In the <em>world<\/em>, 1 in 18 children die in their first year (in 2005). This represents 7.6 million deaths of children under one year of age in one year<\/p>\n<p>Sub-Saharan Africa, home to 11% of the <em>global<\/em> population, has 53% of <em>maternal<\/em> mortality, 50% of <em>children under 5 mortality<\/em><\/p>\n<p>These five risk factors account for 40% of the 60 million deaths each year, according to WHO.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a title=\"Opens in a new window\" href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/healthinfo\/global_burden_disease\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report on global health risk factors<\/a>, the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that the global situation is changing. The aging of the population is a consequence of progress against infectious diseases, but at the same time it increases the burden of chronic diseases in global mortality.<\/p>\n<p>The ten main risk factors cause a seven-year drop in average life expectancy in the world, and ten years in Africa. High blood pressure is the cause of 7.5 million deaths each year worldwide, or 12.8% of the total, ahead of smoking (5.1 million deaths, 8.7% of the total). Excess blood sugar (hyperglycemia) is the third leading cause of death, ahead of physical inactivity, overweight and obesity.<\/p>\n<p>In rich countries, the situation is reversed for the first two causes of death: smoking is the leading cause of death, followed by high blood pressure. Overweight and obesity are in third place in rich countries, ahead of physical inactivity, high blood sugar and high cholesterol. The WHO emphasizes that overweight and obesity cause more deaths in the world than malnutrition.
