Plusieurs questions existentielles qui hantent l\u2019\u00eatre humain depuis toujours sont reli\u00e9es \u00e0 la mort et \u00e0 la religion. Pour faire la lumi\u00e8re sur la vision de la mort dans les grandes religions, Qu\u00e9bec Hebdo a demand\u00e9 \u00e0 Alain Bouchard, charg\u00e9 de cours \u00e0 la Facult\u00e9 de th\u00e9ologie et de sciences religieuses de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval et coordonnateur du Centre de ressources et d\u2019observation de l\u2019innovation religieuse (CROIR), de faire un survol de la question.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Le christianisme<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00abLe christianisme consid\u00e8re la mort comme un scandale, le fruit des limites de l\u2019homme et de son p\u00e9ch\u00e9. C\u2019est seulement parce que le Christ a pass\u00e9 \u00e0 travers la mort et en est ressorti vivant (la r\u00e9surrection) que l\u2019homme peut \u00e0 son tour en \u00eatre lib\u00e9r\u00e9. M\u00eame quand le chr\u00e9tien est tent\u00e9 d\u2019adopter une conception de l\u2019\u00e2me spirituelle h\u00e9rit\u00e9e de Platon, il maintient, contrairement \u00e0 ce philosophe, que l\u2019immortalit\u00e9 n\u2019est pas naturelle \u00e0 l\u2019homme et ne peut \u00eatre qu\u2019un don de Dieu. C\u2019est ce Dieu qui donne \u00e0 l\u2019\u00eatre humain le commencement de son existence et celui-ci n\u2019existe qu\u2019aussi longtemps que Dieu veut qu\u2019il existe. Le christianisme n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 tent\u00e9 par la croyance en la transmigration, sauf dans quelques courants marginaux.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>L\u2019hindouisme<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00abL\u2019hindouisme aborde la mort comme une souffrance, et reste une \u00e9nigme que m\u00eame les plus grands sages ne parviennent jamais \u00e0 r\u00e9soudre enti\u00e8rement. L\u2019hindou pense que c\u2019est en raison de la lourdeur de son moi grossier et de ses d\u00e9sirs limit\u00e9s et partiels qu\u2019il est amen\u00e9 \u00e0 s\u2019emp\u00eatrer dans le flux des renaissances. Diverses disciplines ou <em>yoga <\/em>permettent de d\u00e9couvrir le Soi v\u00e9ritable <em>\u00a0\u00e2tman <\/em>et de d\u00e9passer ces renaissances pour acc\u00e9der \u00e0 l\u2019autre rive du voyage, \u00e0 ce lieu d\u2019o\u00f9 l\u2019on ne rena\u00eet plus. La majorit\u00e9 des hindous esp\u00e8rent par-del\u00e0 la mort en ce monde-ci une meilleure naissance. Ceux qui savent vraiment ne misent que sur la d\u00e9couverte du Soi v\u00e9ritable, identique au Brahman, et la lib\u00e9ration de toutes les existences, bonnes ou mauvaises.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le bouddhisme<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00abLe bouddhisme accepte la conception hindoue de renaissances qui d\u00e9pendent des cons\u00e9quences d\u2019actions bonnes ou mauvaises <em>karman<\/em>, mais va plus loin en s\u2019opposant m\u00eame \u00e0 celle d\u2019un Soi spirituel. L\u2019exp\u00e9rience ultime qu\u2019il propose <em>nirv\u00e2na <\/em>d\u00e9passe toute conceptualisation. Le v\u00e9ritable bouddhiste doit se vider m\u00eame de la notion de Soi <em>\u00e2tman<\/em>, y compris de celle d\u2019un Dieu supr\u00eame. Le bouddhisme n\u2019est pas un ath\u00e9isme au sens o\u00f9 l\u2019Ultime, selon lui, n\u2019existerait pas. Le bouddhisme cherche \u00e0 \u00e9teindre en lui toutes formes de d\u00e9sir, sauf celui de la lib\u00e9ration, et se r\u00e9fugie en un silence qui culmine dans une mort qui est exp\u00e9rience de paix et de pl\u00e9nitude.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le juda\u00efsme<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00abDans le juda\u00efsme, la mort n\u2019est pas monstrueuse, elle fait partie int\u00e9grante de l\u2019exp\u00e9rience humaine; elle est accept\u00e9e comme naturelle et voulue par Dieu. La mort n\u2019est pas la fin de la vie, si le corps revient \u00e0 la poussi\u00e8re, l\u2019\u00e2me retourne \u00e0 son Cr\u00e9ateur. Religion de l\u2019ici et maintenant, l\u2019au-del\u00e0 occupe peu de place dans le juda\u00efsme. Cette sobri\u00e9t\u00e9 entourant la mort t\u00e9moigne de l\u2019esp\u00e9rance en une vie future qui s\u2019inscrit dans la vie ici-bas. Les enseignements parlent d\u2019une r\u00e9surrection qui doit intervenir \u00e0 la fin des temps inaugur\u00e9e par la venue du messie promis. La mort n\u2019est donc qu\u2019une \u00e9tape transitoire de la vie, l\u2019\u00e2me allant rejoindre les \u00e2mes des anc\u00eatres.\u00bb<\/p>\n<p><strong>L\u2019islam<\/strong><br \/>\n\u00abPour l\u2019islam, Dieu est la source et la destination de toute chose. L\u2019homme est sur terre pour adorer son Cr\u00e9ateur en se mettant \u00e0 son service en faisant le bien, il doit prouver qu\u2019il m\u00e9rite de retourner \u00e0 Dieu apr\u00e8s sa mort. La mort n\u2019est pas une punition, c\u2019est le destin in\u00e9vitable de tous les \u00eatres humains, elle est une \u00e9tape transitoire menant \u00e0 une autre vie, apr\u00e8s la r\u00e9surrection et le jugement dernier. L\u2019\u00e9tape la plus importante de ce jugement est la pes\u00e9e des actes sur une balance, chacun se verra attribuer la r\u00e9compense ou la punition m\u00e9rit\u00e9e selon ses actes.
