Since CBS News first aired our veteran suicide report on November 13, we have received several questions from viewers wanting more information. In order to provide as much information as possible and to fully answer all questions, this is a summary of the methodology and results of the data we presented. When CBS News began looking into veteran suicide, we found that no federal organization or agency tracks the number of veteran suicides nationally. To our knowledge, no one is keeping count. We wanted to know how many veterans are committing suicide nationwide and how the rate of suicide for veterans compares to non-veterans. Looking for Data CBS News first approached the Department of Defense DoD , the Department of Veterans Affairs VA , the National Center for Health Statistics NCHS and stanley cup (https://www.stanleycups.ro) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC in June and July asking for suicide data for those who have served in the military. We were told the DoD only tracks suicides committed by military personnel who are on active duty. The VA said they had no suicide data on file at the time. The NCHS which is the federal organization responsible for maintaining most of the nation s health statistics and is a center within the CDC does not monitor the military status of those who have committed suicid stanley cup (https://www.cups-stanley.ca) e. Finally, the CDC s Injury Center also known as the National Center stanley kubek (https://www.stanleycups.pl) for Injury Prevention and Control started a program in 2003 called the National Violent Death Reporting System Zysz NTSB: Controller Didn t Warn Hudson Pilot
Imagine a building that expands to provide a more airy space in the warmth but contracts to reduce heating bills when it gets cold. Well, that almost what this prototype, called, Translated Geometries, is designed to do. A concept by Ece Tankal, Efilena Baseta and Ramin Shambayati at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalun stanley tazas (https://www.stanleycups.com.mx) ya uses Shape Memory Polymers to create a structure that changes shape according with ambient temperatures. The material鈥攊n this case a modern twist on plywood鈥攃an become flexible at high enough temperatures, allowing the overal stanley thermobecher (https://www.cup-stanley.at) l structure to bend and twist into new shapes. Here, then, when the structure surface reaches 60 to 70 degrees Celsius it becomes flexible enough to undergo geometric deformations鈥攁n origami structure that initially twitches stanley thermos mug (https://www.cups-stanley.us) than graciously unfurls. When it cools, it maintains the same shape. To contract back down to size, another round of heating is currently required, upon which the structure returns to its original shape鈥攖he memory in the Shape Memory Polymers really kicking in. That not perfect in term of response to environment, but it a great first step towards an architecture that isn ;t so rigid, that tries to be more attuned with its environment, as Shambayati puts it. That means that in the future, we might expect to see buildings that can change shape by themselves鈥攚ith no need for extra sensors or automation at all. [WIRED] http://wired/2014/09/a-new-conc
