Oh, so Big Jim at the nursing home thinks he   all that, with his cane that doubles up as an umbrella  Egle Ugintaite   cane concept walks all over that, and then some. Sensors actually take readings from the user   wrist, and track the pulse, blood pressure  stanley cup (https://www.stanley-cup.cz) and body temperature, displaying the stats on the little LCD screen.     The cane can also track the user   location by GPS in case they ge stanley cup (https://www.cup-stanley.co.uk) t lost, and with the addition of an SOS button, alert the police or authorities if in trouble. If the cane actually went into production, I ;d like to see some sort of online presence too, whereby stanley cup usa (https://www.stanley-cups.us)  the user could track their daily stats over time. As Lithuanian designer Ugintaite actually won a recent Fujitsu design award, perhaps they ;ll help him realize his dream.  Restless leg syndrome  RLS  is one of those frustrating diseases where we know what it does, and how it works, but the underlying root cause is difficult to ascertain. Now, by engineering flies to have the disease, scientists may have revealed the genetic origins of RLS.     One of the theories behind RLS is that it   tied to a variation of the gene BTBD9 鈥?an analogue of which is found in flies, called dBTBD9. When scientists engineered flies to lack this gene, the insects were hit by a version of the syndrome. They moved more, stanley cup (https://www.stanley-cups.us)  and lost more sleep 鈥?one of the key complaints of RLS. Putting the flies on a drug that   used to treat humans with the disease showed a marked improvement. The study  stanley cup (https://www.cups-stanley.ca) also furthers our understanding of how RLS functions, by controlling dopamine in the brain and the iron balance of cells. While the information from the flies might not hold true for every patient or every stanley botella (https://www.cup-stanley.es)  form of the disease, it might mean a lot for the treatment of a great many of them. Plus this experiment shows, once again, that the comparatively simple neurophysiology of flies can be used to gain a better understanding of our own.
