French President Nicolas Sarkozy has named a special envoy for Afghanistan charged with reinforcing France s role in supporting Afghanistan and Pakistan in their fight against the Taliban. HT Image Pierre Lellouche, the new envoy, is a specialist in international affairs and a lawmaker from Sarkozy s ruling UMP party. France has about 3,300 troops in the Afghan theater.
