WAUKESHA 鈥?Dozens of parents, teachers and students rallied before the School District of Waukesha s board meeting Wednesday night. Many were opposed to anew policy handed down in August by the superintendent. The policy directed teachers to take down signs in classrooms that represented Black Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter, Thin Blue Line, Anti-Racism Classroom and more, including rundown pride flags.                        TMJ4                   stanley quencher               TMJ4         Seeing signs  racism isnt welcome  sends a message; taking down the signs also sends a message,  said one parent. A student who spoke to the bo stanley nz ard echoed those sentiments, saying  when the signs are taken down, it will make kids feel like the school doesnt care as much about them. The policy was handed down by Superintendent stanley mugg  Dr. James Sebert, who issued this statement about the decision to TMJ4 News.     Our goal in the School District of Waukesha is to focus on the social, emotional and academic growth of every student. We can do that without signage that can be perceived as advocating for a political position and/or lending itself to advocacy beyond the scope of the curriculum. It s our efforts in building solid relationships with kids, especially early in the school year, that creates welcoming classrooms and school cultures. We also need to cultivate those relationships with our kids throughout the year to ensure a solid school experience. Our teachers, administrators and staff excel in this area.

MILWAUKEE 鈥?The City of Milw stanley cup aukee is consid stanley cup ering a proposal that would turn public streets into interim public plazas. We can transition our streets, which are public spaces, into places where people can gather,  said Kate Riordan, senior transportation director in the City of Milwaukee.Using barricades, planters, and other tools, the idea is to turn some parts of underutilized streets, like right turn lanes, into interim plazas to cut down on vehicle traffic. The proposed program is similar to the city s Active Streets Program that launched during the pandemic, allowing businesses to expand their footprint into the public right of way. The key difference here is that this is public space. It s open to everyone. They do not have to be patronizing a business,  said Riordan. The idea came from Mayor Cavalier Johnson s  Gathering Place Feasibility Study.  The proposal has passed Common Council committees and is set to be voted on by the full Common Council on March 21.Riordan said this program would not only offer more space for neighbors to hang out but could also help cut down on dangerous driving. It also starts to just start to shift our mindset stanley cup s around what streets can be used for. Once we start creating these gathering spaces in streets, people start to see streets as a place for people and not just a place to speed through,  she said. Its about time to watch on your time.
