A third-grader stuck 19 schoolmates with her mother s diabetes blood-testing needle this week, and one pricked student tested positive for HIV on a preliminary test, officials said.Health officials said the virus could not have been contracted from the needle stick, and they noted that preliminary tests can yield false positives. The  stanley cup risk to students who were stuck after the possibly infected child d stanley cup epends on factors including the depth of the stick, health officials said. The 8-year-old stuck her Taylor Elementary schoolmates Wednesday at the school s breakfast, at lunch and in the classroom, using a needle that was about one-th stanley website ird of an inch long, on the end of a device that looks like a pen, school officials said. They were unsure why the girl did it.She was suspended and will probably be moved to another school, said Paul Vallas, the school district s chief executive. Most of the students involved were taken to a hospital for testing and treatment, school officials said.        According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the risk of HIV infection after a needle stick is low, with an average of one in 300 cases leading to infection.      ponent--type-recirculation .item:nth-child 5          display: none;             inline-recirc-item--id-935322d0-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d,  right-rail-recirc-item--id-935322d0-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d         display: none;             inline-recirc-item--id-935322d0-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d ~ .item:nth-child 5  Ixwg Almost Human is at its best when it focuses on its robots
This 1960 painting of a never-built monorail station is so beautiful, such an amazing example of sleek, midcentury design, that I really wish I could just step inside it and live there. Or, at the very least, blow it up as a giant photomural for my apartment like in Stardust Memories.     Back during the planning of the 1962 Seattle World   Fair, organizers considered a number of different monorail companies and designs. Although the ALWEG company of Germany would win the contract and ultimately build the monorail that still operates there today, SAFEGE, a French-based consortium of 25 companies put in its  stanley mug own proposal, including this rendering for a project it was already working on in Paris. The painting comes from the University of Washington   digital collection, which also has ph stanley vaso otos of the planned monorail in France. The University of Washington explains that what made the French SAFEGE design different from the monorail that Seattle eventually got was its suspended-car system. Rather than sitting on top of the beam, the monorail cars would hang from the track鈥攁 much cooler look in my humble opinion. From the University of Washington: Unlike the German-designed ALWEG system, in which t stanley cup he passenger cars run on top of, and straddle, a solid beam, the SAFEGE design consists of passenger cars suspended beneath rubber-tired wheel carriages enclosed and supported by a box-like track or beam; the rubber wheels of the train run inside the track, supported by flanges
