Letters to the EditorHold consultations before renaming constituenciesNewsdayThursday 15 August 2024Ashton Ford. - File photo by Roger JacobTHE EDITOR: In my submission to the National Advisory Committee on Constitutional Reform, I called for the Elections and Boundaries Commission EBC to hold public consultations before the naming of constituencies for general and local elections in TT.In the third consecutive report from the EBC, it refused to provide the appropriate name for the constituency in south Arima. The previous name allocated to this constituency was Arouca South, which was inexplicably changed to DAbadie/OMeara and now to Malabar/Mausica.As we celebrate the 136th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter by Queen Victoria in 1888 to the borough, it is now painfully evident that the EBCs unilateral decision to split the borough has angered Arimians.To make matters worse, no mention was made of DAbadie/OMeara at the ongoing celebrations because there is a clear ignorance by some that this constituency is part of the borough. In fact, four elected councillors in the 11-member council seven elected and four appointed aldermen come from the DAbadie/OMeara constituency.While I recognise that the EBC strives to name constituencies as far as pos

What started as a simple red-on-white Vote For Love sign on the front of my bike became two red-on-white hand-painted campaign posters on either back window of my vehicle.Noticing the signage, some people on the road would call out things like: Vote for Loooooove or Ah votiiiiiiiiiin! ...sometimes accompanied by bodily motions, like the man standing roadside, victoriously pumping his fists in the air and calling out Yes! Vote fuh Love gyaaal! Ive been having many enriching interactions with members of the public through this campaign.Some of my campaign promises, small but noticeable signs painted in red all caps on white wood, were strategically placed at certain vending points.Love is Kind was placed at the fruit stall across the road from D Colosseum.
