On Wednesday, January 15, Marissa Mayer,

It is the most incisive decision taken by Mayer regarding managers since 2012, the year in which he took over the role of leading Yahoo after leaving Google. The conclusion of relations with De Castro had been hypothesized for several weeks, but such a drastic end was not expected. Kara Swisher of Re/code, usually very well informed on the events affecting Yahoo, published the internal message that Mayer had sent to all employees to update them on the matter. Unlike what usually happens in these cases, with ambiguous and very diplomatic statements, Mayer clearly wrote that he had personally taken the decisionone to fire De Castro. The start of a new year is an opportunity to make some reflections. As we enter 2014, I can say that I am proud of what Yahoo accomplished in 2013 and I am optimistic about what we can do in 2014. I want to thank you all for being so involved and interested in where the company is going. Throughout my reflections, I made the difficult decision to have our COO, Henrique De Castro, leave the company. I appreciated his collaboration and wish him the best for his future activities. In the internal message, Mayer explains that at least for the moment a new operations director will not be appointed and that therefore the tasks that De Castro had will be divided and entrusted to other managers who already work for Yahoo.
