Following a delegation聽about the GTA West Transportation Corridor, Caledon is now requesting that the federal government conduct an environmental impact assessment of the proposed highway. Coun. Johanna Downey moved a motion during a council meeting on Feb. 16, which included this request and council voted in favour unanimously. But it is unclear whether the federal government has jurisdiction over this provincial project.Downey explains that she knew that this piece of infrastructure doesnt actually fit the criteria of a federal environmental assessment despite the request, but felt there was no harm in asking for it. Coun. Jennifer Innis, who also voted in favour thought there was no harm in requesting it either, but she also doesnt believe it would be granted. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW
