Meta just got done hyping people up about its latest VR headset at its Meta Connect conference last w stanley deutschland eek. The $500 device is supposed to combine full-color altered reality and virtual reality in one device, but Meta may not see the kind of demand it did for the Quest 2 when it first launched. TF I stanley taza nternational Securities industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported Thursday that shipping forecasts for the Quest 3 in the second half of 2023 were originally set at more than 7 million units earlier this year. Thats been cut down to between 2 to 2.5 million units for the second half of 2023, and hes expecting the company to ship just 1 million units nex stanley cup t year.     Things arent looking much better for the newly featured Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. Meta will only ship about 1.5 million for the products entire lifecycle, according to Kuos forecasts. The original Ray-Ban Stories put out by Meta back in 2021 had only about 50,000 active users, and this was back when the company expected to ship about 2 million units. After lower-than-expected sales, Meta cut that number down to about 300-400,000 glasses. The shipping expectations for the Quest 3 come at a rather bad time for Meta. Based on two unnamed sources, Reuters reported that Meta conducted yet another round of layoffs, this time targeting the folks who make the custom chips for the companys VR hardware. The team impacted by the cuts is reportedly the Facebook Agile Silicon Team which builds the custom chips for Metas AR/VR offerings.  Wnzk Feds Say Russia Hacked the DNC to Influence the Election
Bloomberg reports that Apple  is exploring cutting-edge technologies that would allow iPhones and iPads to be powered from further away than the charging mats use stanley canada d with current smartphones.      The idea is not a new one. Earlier this month, Ossia showed off a system that allows an iPhone to be charged in mid-air. It works by using an antenna that can capture energy held in radio frequency waves floating through the air that are carefully directed from a central hub. Its not an easy challenge, for a number of reasons. The technology required to capture enough energy is, for Ossia at least, rather bulky. And as Bloomberg points out,  efficiency of power transfer decreases as the distance between transmitter and receiver grows.  If Apple is trying to build a sleek phone, those two issues create a compounded problem where its difficult to charge a battery quickly. Indeed, Bloomberg claims that Apple  is looking to overcome technical barriers.  No kidding. In fact, its likely been working on wireless charging for years by this points. Whether well see in the next iPhone, or the one after that  Well have to wait and see.
