How to Switch Teams in Road to the Show

There are three main ways to request or force a team change in RTTS:

1. Use the Interaction Menu

From the RTTS main menu, go to the top right corner and open the Message Box. Here, you can directly contact your agent or manager to let them know you’re unhappy with your current team and want to explore other options. This method gives you control over the timing of your trade requests and keeps things realistic within your career story.

2. Leverage the Mid-Season Agent Check-In

Your agent will periodically check in with you during the mid-season or before the trade deadline. If you tell them you want out, they’ll actively look for trade opportunities that better fit your career goals. This is a more organic approach and mirrors how real-life players navigate team changes.

3. Play to Free Agency

If you prefer to avoid forcing a trade, simply play through your rookie contract. After accumulating six years of Major League service time, you’ll enter true Free Agency and can sign with any team that offers a contract. This method requires patience but can give you more control over your next destination.

Starting a Fresh RTTS Career With Your Current Stats

If you want to play for a different team from Day 1 without waiting for trades or free agency, you can start a new RTTS save file while keeping your player’s attributes intact:

Go to the main menu and highlight the Road to the Show panel.
Press Square (PlayStation), X (Xbox), or Y (Nintendo Switch) to open file options.
Select Start New.
Set up your amateur career (High School or NCAA path) and pick your preferred team during the draft process.

Keep in mind, your player will start in the minor leagues as a lower-round draft pick again, but all unlocked attributes, training tokens, and equipped gear carry over immediately. This lets you jump into a new organization without feeling like you’re starting completely from scratch.

What Progress Carries Over?
Carries Over Completely ✅   Resets To Zero ❌
Player Attribute Levels   Current Season Stats & Standings
Earned Training Tokens & Perks   Team-Specific Contract Values
Unlocked Equipment & Bat Skins   Active Place in the Lineup/Rotation
Overall Ballplayer OVR Rating   Manager Trust & Call-Up Hierarchy

By understanding what sticks and what resets, you can make informed decisions about switching teams without jeopardizing your hard-earned progress.

This guide ensures you can explore new teams in MLB The Show 26 while keeping the core of your player’s journey intact—no trade-off necessary.
