Uirq Schools Warned Of Terror Threats
MIDLAND, Texas At least four veterans were killed and 16 other people were injured when a train slammed into a parade float carrying returning heroes to a banquet to honor them in West Texas, officials said Friday.A float decorated with American flags and carrying wounded veterans and their spouses took the full force of a train at a railroad crossing in Midland, killing at least four veterans and injuring 16 people. There were 26 people on the flatbed at the time of the accident. Some managed to jump clear as the train, with its horn blasting, bore down on the float decorated with American flags Thursday afternoon. Pam Shoemaker from Monroe, La., said she and her husband, a special operations veteran, were on the float ahead of the one that was struck. Shoemaker described how the celebration so quickly turned sour. She said her truck had just crossed the tracks and was moving slowly but never stopped. All around stanley cup usa , the crowds lining the parade route cheered.         It was beautiful stanley cup ,  she said Friday.  There were lots of people with signs.  As if we didn ;t already have enough to worry about, a pair of scientists are warning that it   theoretically possible to deliberately detonate the Sun. Called an artificial supernova, this event could represent a new existential risk to the human species. Or maybe, these guys don ;t know what the hell they ;re talking about.     Before I get into the details of the study, it   worth noting that the paper was published in the open access journal, Scientific Research Publishing  SCIRP . Though the China-based site claims to conduct a rigorous peer review of research papers, it is considered a predatory open access publisher. It does attra stanley fr ct quality articles from time to time, but it mostly serves as a vanity press. With that hefty grain of salt administered, here   what the paper had to say. According to Alexander Bolonkin and Joseph Friedlander, it may be possible to produce  8220 elf-supporting detonating thermonuc stanley termosar lear reactions that spread to the full solar volume 鈥?a similar process to the triggering mechanisms in a thermonuclear bomb. Conditions within the bomb can be optimized in a small area to initiate ignition, then spread to a larger area, allowing [for the production of] a hydrogen bomb  stanley hrnek of any power, write the authors in the study. In the case of the Sun certain targeting practices may greatly increase the chances of an artificial explosion of the Sun. This explo

A Wisconsin prosecutor known for two decades as an advocate for crime victims says he is embarrassed about sending sexually suggestive text messages to a younger woman while he was prosecuting her ex-boyfriend in a domestic abuse case, but will remain in office.Calumet County District Attorney Kenneth Kratz issued that statement Wednesday after The Associated Press reported on the 30 texts stanley tumblers  he sent to a 26-year-old woman who had complained to police last year. A police report shows he repeatedly sent Stephanie Van Groll text messages in October 2009 trying to spark an affair.  A new paper out today in Nature offers some good news and bad news about volcanic eruptions. First, the bad news.     The researchers found that certain kinds of volcanoes can unleash a bunch of lava, then recharge with new magma from deep in the Earth within a matter of days or weeks. Previously, scientists believed it would take much longer for this recharging to happen. So one of these volcanoes could actually be simultaneously erupting and recharging its magma chamber with superheated rock from the Earth   mantle. Columbia University Earth scientists Philipp Ruprech and Terry Plank described the situation as the highway from hell. Because really, let   just call it what it is. The good news is that this information could help us predict vol stanley vaso canic eruptions months in advance. By monitoring small earthquakes deep in the Earth stanley mug    crust, where these rapid recharges are happening, seismologists might know when an eruption is coming. Usually, volcanic activity is monitored from the Earth   surface, where small and large quakes will signal that an eruption might be near 鈥?especially if the Earth is bulging over the top of the volcano. Now we know that some volcanoes might prepare for their eruptions deep underground, too. Read the full scientific paper in Nature, or read a description stanley thermos mug  of the findings in Discover.                                                        earth scienceGeologyScience

At rail stations and shopping malls around the world, reports are popping up of people, particularly young children, getting their toes caught in escalators. The one common theme seems to be the clunky soft-soled clogs known by the name of the most popular brand, Crocs. One o stanley tumblers f the nation s largest subway systems - the Washington Metro - has even posted ads warning riders about wearing such shoes on its moving stairways. The ads feature a photo of a crocodile, though they don t mention Crocs by name.Four-year-old Rory McDermott got a Croc-clad foot caught in an escalator last month at a mall in northern Virginia. His mother managed to yank him free, but the nail on his big toe was almost completely ripped off, causing heavy bleeding. At first, Rory s mother had no idea what caused the boy s foot to get cau stanley cup uk ght. It was only later, when someone at the hospital remarked on Rory s shoes, that she began to suspect the Crocs and did an Internet search. I came home and typed in  Croc  and  escalator,  and all these stories came up,  said Jodi McDermott, of Vienna, Va.  If I had known, those would never have been worn.         According to repor stanley flask ts appearing across the United States and as far away as Singapore and Japan, entrapments occur because of two of the biggest selling points of shoes like Crocs: their flexibility and grip. Some report the shoes get caught in the  teeth  at the bottom or top of the escalator, or in the crack between the steps and the side of the escalator.
