Were taking a look at changes in the marijuana research industry that will make it easier for studies to be conducted.Change is in progress that could make a big difference in the way medicinal marijuana is sold. This week in federal court, oral arguments will begin to get cannabis out of the Schedule 1 drug classification. That could lead to things like insurance c stanley travel mug overage on medical purchases since companies often look to federal law for guidance. The fact that that marijuana is in Schedule 1, and therefore it is a violation of federal law to use it, possess it, manufacture it, distribute it, has bearing on risk assessments and it has bearing on what insurance companies are willing to cover,  said Shane Pennington, Counsel at Vicente Sederberg stanley cup  LLP.But this case isnt black and white. Since there are so many different strains, cannabis plants dont fit the typical standard for FDA approval. Previously, they could only source the drug from one federally-approved company.Having more accurate research is a big step that could make doctors feel more confident about prescribing marijuana. A

As the end of 2023 approaches, American farmers and food producers are looking back on the year with frustration after Congress failed to pass a newFarm Billthis year. The farm bill expired in September. The piece of legislation is passed by Congress every five years and funds critical programs like crop insurance for farmers. The bill also covers funding for programs like theSupplemental Nutrition Assistance Program SNAP , also known as food stamps. It must be renewed every five years and is typically one of the most bipartisan pieces of legislation passed by Congress 鈥?but not this year. There does not appear to be much of an ability to legislate on something like this. The House has been an absolute mess in terms of being functional enough to do anything,  said Jonat stanley becher han Coppess, who teaches agriculture policy at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.SEE MORE: Scripps News survey finds $70M stolen from food assistance programCoppess said Congress  inability to pass a new Farm Bill this year speaks to broader dysfunction in Washington. We re just stacking up the things that need to be done, and Congress is not finding ways to get them done,  he said. The $1.2 trillion price tag is part of the reason the passage of a new bill is being held up. Some Republicans also want SNAP benefits to come with stricter work requirements. The chaos surrounding the House speaker earlier this year didn t help, either.
