Workers aboard an exploding offshore drilling platform were told to sign statements denying they were hurt or witnessed the blast that rocked the rig, killed 11 and spewed millions of gallons of oil into the ocean, their attorneys said Tuesday.Survivors floated for hours in life boats in the Gulf of Mexico following the disaster on the Deepwater Horizon, and were greeted by company officials onshore asking them to sign statements that they had no  first hand or personal knowledge  of the incident, attorneys said. These men are told they have to sign these statements or they can t go home,  said Tony Buzbee, a Houston-based attorney for 10 Transocean workers.  I think it s pretty callous, but I m not surprised by it.  Special Section: Gulf Coast Oil Disaster Oil Spill by the NumbersGulf Oil Spill Containment EffortsGuy Cantwell, a spokesman for rig owner Transocean Ltd., refused to answer whether Transocean or any company attached to the firm had supplied the statement, claiming it was inappropriate to co stanley website mment on litigation.         Our focus has been on the crewmembers and their families, working with all parties in the response efforts and conducting a Transocean investigation into the incident,  he said Monday. The men were kept for at least 10 hours at sea, then taken to a hotel on shore in Louisiana to sign  stanley cup the forms and be debriefed, according to Buzbee and court documents filed in lawsuits already brought by some Transocean employees.  In my musical upbringing, Ghostface Killah is an oddity. Back in 2006, I was a senior in high school and my iPod was almost exclusively filled with classic rock tracks  thanks parents  and Rage Against The Machine  thanks teenage angst . There   no reason that Ghostface Killah   absolutely amazing Fishscale should have been anywhere near my radar.     But we were introduced by a friend of a friend, and it   been love  stanley vaso ever since. To this day, I can still perfectly recite The Champ from that record because I practically burned the lyrics into my brain by  starbucks stanley cup endless repetition. In fact, let   give it another listen.  Eight years later, I still wait patiently for every new Ghostface Killah LP. So, of course, this week I ;ve been exclusively streaming 36 Seasons via NPR First Listen鈥攁nd it is soooo good. Every single second of this album   40 minutes is just fun. With a mixture of rap, soul, hip-hop, R 038;B, and maybe even subtle doo-wop influences sprinkled about. With that staggering list of genres jammed into one album, 36 Seasons jumps fro stanley cup m a biting opener with The Battlefield, reminiscent of Fishscale at its absolute best, and transitions to slower numbers like It   a Thin Line Between Love and Hate.  It   a shame that so many music pubs have pushed out their Best of 2014 lists because 36 Seasons could ;ve easily been a contender, maybe even The Champ.  WASHINGTON - As Gen. David Petraeus shifts from the Afghan battlefield to run the CIA, he leaves behind a legacy of tactical and spycraft changes that spurred more killings and captures of Afghan militants while reducing insurgent attacks to their lowe stanley cup st level in years, senior U.S. officials in Afghanistan said. From April to July this year, officials said, 2,832 special operations raids led to the capture of 2,941 insurgents and the killings of 834. That s twice the number captured or killed during the same period a year ago, when special operations forces captured more than 1,350 insurgents and killed 1,031 in roughly the same number of raids, according to figures shared with The Associated Press by NATO headquarters. No one claims the latest numbers guarantee long-term success in keeping the anti-government Taliban factions from reconstituting or in driving mid-level Taliban to the negotiating table.  Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton says his department must stay out of the business of collaring illegal immigrants. In an article in Tuesday s Los Angeles Times, Bratton says the LAPD should continue a three-decade-old policy that prohibits officers from stopping someone solely to determine whether they re in the country illegally.Bratton says it s harder for police to do their job if witnesses won t come forward because they re afraid of deportation.Dozens of state and local police agencies around the country have joined a federal program giving officers the powers of federal immigration agents. But the chief says his replacement should focus on community outreach and not community alienation.Bratton will step down Saturday to join a Virginia-based global security firm.                                                                      ponent--type-recirculation .item:nth-child 5          display: none;             inline-recirc-item--id-94dde68a-8c88-11e2- stanley cup b06b-024c619f5c3d,  right-rail-recirc-item--id-94dde68a-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d         display: none;             inline-recirc-item--id-94dde68a-8c88-11e2-b06b-024c619f5c3d ~ .item stanley termohrnek :nth- stanley cups uk child 5          display: block;       Rwsx Cruise passenger: People thought ship was  going to tip over
Many photographers play with the way infrared photography transforms mundane landscapes into cotton candy fantasy lands. The Richard Mosse-directed video installation The Enclave goes a step further, juxtaposing those landscapes against the lives of rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the video above, Mosse discusses the project, and we get to see some of the sequences from The Enclave. He, along with cinematographer Trevor Tweeten and sound designer Ben Frost, infiltrated armed rebel groups in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo to capture them on film. He used discontinued military surveillance film that registers infrared light that was original meant to spot camouflaged people and objects, rendering the invisible visible. And by showing vi stanley vaso deo of these people and these are stanley canada as to Western audiences, Mosse feels he is doing just that, making visible what is so often invisible. He also means to make his war photography beautiful as a way to make people pay attention to it. The oddly colored landscapes attract the eye, enticing the viewer to sit and watch the people who pop out against the backgr stanley termosy ounds. It also, he believes, creates an ethical problem in the viewers ; minds, as they find themselves finding these depictions of human suffering as aesthetically beautiful. The Enclave is shown on as an installation, projected on six screens simultaneously. It is currently showing at the Venice Biennale in the Pavilion of Ireland, where it will be until Nove

District Attorney Mike Nifo stanley cup ng acknowledged Friday that he  maybe got carried away a little bit  in talking about the three Duke University lacrosse players who were once charged with raping a stripper, and he said he expected to be punished by the state bar. I think clearly some of the statements I made were improper,  Nifong testified Friday at his own ethics trial. The lacrosse players were cleared of all charges after the state attorney general took over the case earlier this year. North Carolina s State Bar has charged Nifong with violating the rules of professional conduct, alleging he withheld the DNA test results from the defense, lied to the court and bar investigators, and made inflammatory comments about the athletes during his investigation.Nifong had calling the players a  bunch of ho stanley cup deutschland oligans  and had confidently proclaimed last year that he wouldn t allow Durham to become known for  a bunch of lacrosse players from Duke raping a black girl.  My fervent desire was to keep the Duke lacrosse case from either being affected by politics or affecting politics in Durham,  Nifong said.   ... I didn t want the political climate to b stanley cup e based on the case.         On the stand Friday, Nifong said,  The comment about race was not a comment that should have been made. If convicted by the bar s disciplinary committee, the Durham County district attorney could be stripped of his license to practice law in the state. One of the three players also testified Friday about his fear when  Moaf NFL Fans By U.S. County, According to Twitter
In the video above, audio nerd Jeremy Bell demonstrates his invention, the ScrubBoard, which allows him to scratch tapes with his hands as if they are records. To make the ScrubBoard, Bell removed the tape head from a regular record player and reattached it using longer cables. Then he scratches the signal over some audio tape that   been laid flat on a board. When he drags the tape head on the tape it plays, and when he moves it back and forth rhythmically, it scratches as if it was a record. So clever. One of the advantages to the ScrubBoard is that you don ;t have to hit the crossfader cut off the sound, you can just lift your finger off which means that you can scratch with two hands at once. Still, for a harder super fast cut like what the pros get with a mixer   kill switch, Bell hacked together a solution with just a couple of dimes and a clothes pin. Bell   scratches in this video are very impressive. Even if the ScrubBoard in its cur stanley cups uk rent form isn ;t quite the most practical solution for scratchi stanley vaso ng, it lets you get some very realistic effects without all of the hardware or even a ton of experience. And of course, because it   only a half-baked idea, Bell has launched a Kickstarterto try to get a more user friendly, production quality version of the  ScrubBoard off the ground. Unfortunately, Bell wants $300 for even the cheapest early bird model, which feels expensive despite being a lot more ambitious than hi stanley cup s basic prototype. Even if

For the past 18 months, according to the Tech Review, Google has been quietly rolling out a cloud computing service for DNA. Google Genomics could one day have millions of genomes on its servers, available at a click of a button to researchers. Are there legitimate privacy concerns here  Definitely, but it   not Go stanley sverige ogle   grubby fingers you should worry about.     Genetic databases already exist online, of course, and Google Genomics is only the latest  and most ambitious  iteration. There are genealogy databasesfor finding your ancestors and long-lost relatives. There are publicly available genetic databases run by national research centers. And there are dozens of datasets shared by research groups on a case-by-case basis with others. Goog stanley taza le Genomics is going around to research centers and universities offering to host their genome sequences for $25 a po stanley cup p each year. The more genomes it can collect in a central repository, the easier it could be for researchers to share their data. Why Google Genomics Could Be a Big Deal  A genome sequence by itself is useless. Without comparing it to others, you don ;t know what is a mutation or what is normal. Take two genomes, and you can start having some idea, but you ;ll still be swamped by the hundreds of variations. With a database of dozens, hundred, thousands of genomes, you get a much better chance of pinpointing. The bigger your database, the better. Sequencing genomes is only becoming cheaper and easier, but
