 A raccoon believed to be infected with rabies was shot and killed by police in Shelburne on Canada Day  July 1 .At about noon on Saturday, Shelburne police were called to respond to reports of a rabid raccoon near a municipal park on Simon Street. After a dog and its owner helped locate the animal, police decided to shoot and kill the raccoon. The raccoon showed obvious signs. It was very disoriented. It would not shy away from the dog.
