 We built a tremendous amount of the world you see on screen. Matt was deeply motivated to deliver an epic world with a grounded reality. We spent a tremendous amount of energy trying to bring truth to the story. The work WETA has done to create such amazing, hyperreal characters, raised the bar for us as an Art Department to deliver a world that was equally as rich. WETA was excited about bringing motion capture out into the rea stanley tumblers l world and we certainly did our best to provide a richly textured environment for them to play in. In the end, it is really a groundbreaking film in that motion capture is officially out of the box and into the real world! Our Art Department was composed of an incredible complement of talent. One of the things I am most proud of is how we achieved a blend between traditional techniques, like physical modelmaking and traditional drafting, and the most cutting edge forms of 3D modeling and previz. The Art Department and Visual Effects were lockstep all through prep and into post, and I believe in the end that is why the film is so successful visually. We prepared a complete plan, that went deep into the virtual world, and this really helped accelerate the final phase for WETA and the post team.
