Brampton residents will only be looking at 1.1 per cent property tax hike this year after Brampton council passed the 2019 budget with a freeze on the citys portion of the annual levy at a special meeting on March 27.The original proposed budget tabled in February called for 0.8 per cent increase by the city in 2019. That would have translated to a 1.1 per cent increase from the region, 0.3 increase from the city and zero per cent on the school po stanley flask rtion of the tab for a total of a 1.4 per cent harmonized tax hike. However, through their budget deliberations, council and city staff were able to get the city portion of that proposed number down to zero. With the school board levy already frozen this year, that leaves only stanley mug  the regional increase of 1.1 per cent for taxpayers to worry about.               ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW                                        Mayor Patrick Brown, who campaigned on freezing the citys portion of the levy, applauded both council and staff for achieving that goal.  Maybe Ontario never had a chance. Maybe nothing would have made enough of a difference 鈥?not staying home, not health care working its guts out, not masks and distance and washing our hands. Maybe this government was just never going to do what was necessary to take care of everyone, and do the damned job.Tuesday, Ontarios scientific modelling painted a picture of COVID-19 catastrophe 鈥?of an unfolding long-term-care home massacre, of hospitals that run out of roo stanley uk m, of a virus variant that could set everything on fire 鈥?and an hour later the premier walked out and said the system was on the brink of collapse. And all that was true. And then Doug Ford issued an incomplete stay-at-home order that he said took five hours of cabinet debate to decide on, which sounds so absurd that it should have been livestreamed so the world could see. Faced with calamity, and in fact past a reasonable point  stanley cup of calamity, this government is staying true to itself: it is still choosing primarily to protect those who can protect themselves. And its giving itself someone to blame.               ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW                                         The success of these measures will ultimately depend on you,  said Ford.  It will depend on each one of you. Because without all of us rowing in the same direction, this thing could get much worse stanley tumbler . Just look at whats happening in countries where the U.K. variant has taken hold. Its a total disaster. And weve been told by officials its not a matter
