Esux Remembering And Hitting The Road
Aviation safety experts said Tuesday strong crosswinds likely were a factor in an accident last month that sent a Continental Airlines jet into a bone-jarring veer off a Denver runway and across open, snowy fields before it came  stanley kubek to a halt and caught fire.Several safety experts raised the possibility that the Boeing 737-500 airliner, carrying 110 passengers, may have experienced  weather vaning,  where a strong crosswind pushes a plane s tail and turns the aircraft s nose into  stanley uk the wind, much like it turns a weather vane. While gusts of up to 37 mph were reported at Denver stanley italia  International Airport on the day of the accident, the experts said, winds were probably not strong enough to explain the accident entirely, and some additional factor - either mechanical failure or human error - also could have played a role. My suspicion is that the crosswind was definitely a factor,  said Eric Doten, an aviation safety consultant and adjutant faculty member at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. If there s nothing wrong with the engines and nothing wrong with the gear and nothing wrong with that airplane that they can find, then I would suspect that wind is going to end up being the culprit, and that what happened to the airplane is the result of some reaction to the wind, either by the airplane or by the pilot,  Doten said in an interview.        Continental Airlines flight 1404 was taking off for Houston on Dec. 20 when the accident happened, injuring 37 people.  Countless tests have shown that a good night   sleep makes it easier to recall what you ;ve learned. But we stanley bottles  don ;t know why. For decades, scientists have hypothesized that sleep strengthens our brains ; neural corrections, but direct evidence for this has been lacking. Now, we may finally have that evidence. What Makes A Memory  Decades of empirical research and millennia of collective experience have taught us that sleep deprivation impairs learning. A tired person is less able to focus, and therefore less able to grasp a new skill, than a rested one. We also know that sleep is vita stanley cup l to the fortification of new memories. After being expo stanley flask sed to new information, someone who experiences a good night   sleep will have better recall of that information than someone who stays awake the whole night through. The apt apprentice listens well, sleeps soundly and repeats. She strengthens her memory  or her skillset, or knowledge base , by not only acquiring new information but consolidating it, so that it can be built upon in the future. This much we know. What we don ;t know is how sleep benefits memory. You might assume that when we talk about building upon previous knowledge, we ;re employing a metaphor that describes additive physical changes in the brain. In reality, however, this relationship is not so clear-cut. Yes, it is true that memory and learning are boosted by a good night   rest. It has also been shown that learning

The federal government has asked New Jersey not t vaso stanley o release a state study - ordered as part of a government probe into allegations of racial profiling - that suggests black drivers s stanley deutschland peed more than other drivers. The findings were due to be released in January, but the Justice Depa stanley cup rtment asked they be withheld because of concerns about the methods used to gather the data.Gov. The researchers wanted to determine if black and Hispanic drivers, who are stopped more often for speeding, actually speed more. The Public Service Research Institute used specially designed radar gun cameras to photograph tens of thousands of drivers on the New Jersey Turnpike last spring. The photos were shown to teams of three evaluators who tried to determine each driver s race without knowing whether the driver was speeding.        The study, which has not been formally released, found black drivers went 15 mph or more over the speed limit much more than other drivers, and the racial gap widened at higher speed limits. It found little difference in 55 mph zones.Mark Posner, a Justice Department lawyer who asked that the findings be withheld, said he feared the results had been skewed by factors such as glare on windshields, weather and camera placement.
