Somewhere around 1973, Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn found a way to make machines talk to each other using a protocol called TCP/IP. The protocol was simple, elegant, and catchy. Nearly anything could use it. People said it would run over two tin cans and a piece of string. Today, it runs over everything. It   not just computers.
