Amazon on Wednesday said it has a plan to feed its growing need for power: investing in small nuclear reactors. The announcement comes just two days after Google said it s pursuing a similar path by purchasing nuclear energy from Kairos Power. The tech giants are seeking new sources of carbon-free electricity to meet surging demand from data centers and artificial intelligence, with their plans coming after Microsoft said last month that it will buy energy from the Three Mil stanley cup e Island nuclear power plant. All three companies have been investing in solar and wind technologies, which make electricity without producing greenhouse gas emissions. Now they say they need to go further in the search for clean electricity to meet both demand and their own commitments to cut emissions.                                         The tech partnerships to buy nuclear power could be a  marriage made in heaven,  noted Tim Winter, a portfolio manager at Gabelli Funds, in an email to CBS MoneyWatch.  Big Tech wants power to fuel huge new AI data centers  because a lack of U.S. power supply could slow down technological developments.Nuclear energy is a climate solution in that its reactors don t emit the planet-warming greenhouse gases that come from power plants that burn fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and gas. The demand for power is surging globally as buildings and vehicles electrify, and with the rise of AI.   stanley cup        People used more electricity than ever last year, placing strain on ele stanley cup ctric gr Vqpg 6-year-old special needs student left on bus for 7 hours
A Chicago-area mother is saying she is being  mom-shamed  when someone in her neighborhood called the police when her 8-year-old daughter was walking the family dog by herself.  I think it s a crazy waste of resources,  the girl s mother, Corey Widen, told CBS Chicago. The little girl at the center of the controversy just recently started walking her dog around the block in Wilmette, a North Shore suburb of Chicago. But one of those walks caught the eye of a neighbor, who called poli asics ce and set off a legal nightmare for the family.                                        While police never pursued charges, the Department of Children and Family Services  DCFS  also launched an investigation after someone saw Widen s daughter, Dorothy, on her solo walk.Shortly after the eight-year-old got home, a Wilmette police officer rang the doorbell.         I was like really scared,  Dorothy said.  I saw the police just there, like the police s car and I heard the like sirens going off. When asked to describe her reaction when she first saw the police, Widen said,  for a split second I thought maybe it was fundraising.  She quickly learned that wasn t the ca air max se.Widen says the officer called to her home by a neighbor who saw her daughter walking alone had left without incident. Apparently whoever stanley cup  called the police didn t think the police were a good enough judge of what was OK and not OK. Then they called DCFS. The police did not call DCFS,  Widen said.            An investigation was launched
