 Rescuers rushed into action Tuesday after a walrus mdash; estimated to be only a couple of weeks old or less mdash; was spotted alone on an Alaskan beach.Walruses are very reliant on their mothers for the first two years of their lives, so the newborn likely wouldn t have survived for long after being left alone, according to the Alaska SeaLife Center. She was malnourished and dehydrated when a team arrived on Tuesday. She now has a second chance at life in human care, and she ll help bring awareness to her species while receiving incredible care,  wildlife response animal care specialist Halley Werner said in a news release.                The Alaska SeaLife Center Wildlife Response Program is caring for an orphaned female Pacific walrus calf that arrived from Utqiagvik, AK on July 22, 2024.                                                      Kaiti Grant | Alaska SeaLife Center                         stanley cup                 The 165-pound calf  stanley cup was found on a beach in Utqiagvik, a city in northern Alaska. A herd had recently left the area, which led rescuers to believe the calf had been left on its own.                                        Rescuers gave the calf emergency fluids and stabiliz stanley cup ing treatments. The Alaska SeaLife Center has at least two people working in shifts, either staying with the calf, preparing food, cleaning or caring for other animals.  RICHMOND, Va. -- A Confederate statue in Richmond, Virginia, was vandalized overnight with what appears to be red paint. The vandalism followed this week s toppling of a Confederate monument in North Carolina.  Police spokesman James Mercante said a patrol officer observed a  red paint-like  substance on the statue of Confederate Lt. Gen. A.P. Hill around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday. Police believe the vandalism happened around midnight, according to Mercante.An investigation is underway, CBS Richmond affiliate WTVR reported.                                         The Department of Parks, Recreation and Comm jordan unity Facilities is responsible for the removal of the vandalism,  a Richmond Police spokesperson said, WTVR reported.  If the damage from the vandalism is $1,000 or more the person responsible can be charged with a felony.     At the intersection of Labernum Avenue  Hermitage Road, where the Confederate A.P.
