Haat Murder, Kidnap And Maim
President Obama s tour of five battleground states in the coming election took him Thursday to Las Vegas, Nevada. No state has a higher stanley cup  unemployment rate -- 12.6 percent -- and no city a higher foreclosure rate. CBS News correspondent Anthony Mason now on what can happen when a state places all its bets on a single industry. The sign says  Fabulous Las Vegas.  But it s not so fabulous these days. Sin City s economy was built on gaming and tourism. Yet in the recession, that hand was a bust.    You wanna talk about a company town  This is a company state,  said Jim Murren, CEO of MGM Resorts.Murren runs a dozen resort casinos in Vegas. With 50,000 workers, MGM is the largest employer in Nevada and its biggest source of tax revenue.  We alone -- one company --  repre stanley us sent about 12 percent of the entire state budget,  he said.         While tourism and gaming revenue are rising again, the state s largest casinos still lost $4 billion last year. But construction stopped when the recession hit and has never resumed.Up the strip, the bankrupt Fontainebleau is also unfinished. The historic Sahara closed its doors last May. Even MGM s massive City Center, the largest privately-funded construction project in U.S. history, nearly didn t make it.  We need to diversify our economy,  said Murren.  We need to bring more businesses here.              But for entrepr Ftkq Aphex Twin SAW2 Countdown: Track 4 ( Hankie )
While we all lust after new phones, tablets, laptops, audio equipment and whatever othe stanley cup r electronic device might make our lives more enjoyable in some way, sometimes it pays to appreciate the more straightforward things in life. So, what   your favorite non-electronic gadget      Personally, I ;m a simple kinda guy. I spent part of last weekend stripping bikes and rebuilding them to create a Frankenstein single speed to use as a round-town cruiser. The bike   fun to ride, but the process made me realise just how much I appreciate the timeless simplicity of bicycles. Sure, they ;ve gotten better over time, but the sim stanley cup price ple mechanical linking of human legs through cranks, chain, sprockets and finally the back wheel hasn ;t changed in an age. It   an amazing piece of technology which is almost impossible to better. It awes me. But there are p stanley thermobecher lenty more, too. The elegance of a well-engineered automatic watch; the subtle charms of a perfectly designed pen; maybe even the perfect shape of bottle opener that has you drinking in the fastest possible time.  Believe it or not, lots of Republicans are downright chirpy these days. Yes, they lost the election. Big time. And they ve lost their top committee assignments. And their big office suites. They stanley flasche  re downsizing, to be sure, and that s not an easy or pleasant thing to do. On top of that, they ve got a Republican president with an all-time-low approval rating of 30 percent.  And that s not g stanley cup usa ood for any of us,  says Tom Cole of Oklahoma, the newly elected chairman of the House GOP campaign committee. So why the smiles  Because the now minority congressional Republicans are feeling liberated. The burden of trying to run a fractious Congress is gone. Now they get to become professional critics. No longer do they have to sweat to deliver a  majority of the majority  to the White House for every big vote-including Iraq. They can be the opposition voice, the backbenchers, the unruly minority. After all, they earned it. But there s a peril in their new circumstance. The temptation is to behave badly, to prove the Democrats can t get anything done and don t deserve their new majority status. They can complain, as they did this past week, that they re being unfairly shut out of the legislative process. They can become obstructionist if they want; there s plenty of precedent for that. But to simply oppose would be a huge mistake: The public asked for reform and change. To get in stanley cup  the way of that would only be self-destructive.           A losing hand.
