If the world needs a new field of science, can you simply create one from scratch  That   the question of a group of researchers at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. The scientists recently chronicled the twenty-five year journey of sustainability science, a newly coined field with the goal of advancing society without destroying our planet. So how close did they come to creating a new discipline      The Los Alamos National Laboratory researchers make their case for the rise of sustainability science ana stanley kaffeebecher lytically, using information on the geographic spread of data sharing and proliferation of journal articles. Their article, Evolution and structure of sustainability science, can be read for free via the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. What is Sustainability Science  The definition of sustainability science is a  stanley cup problem researchers struggled with in the early days of the field. Unlike, chemistry or math, where the name relays an inherent definition, the aim of sustainability science is a little harder to pin down. The journal Sustainability Science clarifies the issue, saying: Sustainability science probes interactions between global, social, and human systems, the complex mechanisms that lead to degradation of these systems, and concomitant risks to human well-being.  In its quest to make computers insanely slim, Apple has been looking into ways to make existing keyboards even thinner. stanley botella  A patent revealed this week shows it might be possible to shrink size, but stanley cup  who knows what it could do to performance.     Reported by Apple Insider, the patent describes how keyboards could be made thinner while attempting to maintain usability. One of Apple   solutions is a single support lever keyboard mechanism. The system, it   suggested, would mean keys with a total travel range of as little as 0.2 millimeters. Given the number of complaints I hear about key travel on keyboards, I ;m not sure how well that would work. It also suggests that keys could be made of stanley water jug  any material, listing potential materials that could be used as glass, wood, stone, and even polished meteorite. I really, really want a keyboard made of polished meteorite. Another solution suggest that the keys could be flexible, as in the image above, with a sprung lever to provide a positive feeling while typing. One of the plus points here, according to the patent, is that it would reduce the tapping sounds that keyboards currently make. While these concepts might make for slimmer keyboards, I ;m skeptical as to whether they ;d help with my typing. [Apple Insider]                                                        Applepatents
