Crime novelists have hit out at the claim that fictional depictions of sexual assault influence the outcomes of rape cases, after a prize for books with no violence against women asserted that stereotypical portrayals of attackers could  seriously affect justice . stanley sverige The Staunch prize, awarded to a thriller in which no woman is beaten, stalked, sexually exploited, raped or murdered, was launched last year to  offer an alternative narrative to stories based around violence to women . When it was announced, it was widely criticised by major writers including Val McDermid and Sophie Hannah. McDermid said that  as long as men commit appalling acts of  stanley cup misogyny and violence against women, I will write about it so that it does not go unnoticed , and Hannah told her publishers not to submit her books for the prize.A prize for thrillers with no violence against women  Thats not progressiveRead moreThe prize, which is now looking for entries for 2019, this year points to what it calls a growing body of research suggesting that jurors are  reluctant to convict ordinary men accused of rape, as they dont fit the idea of a rapist theyve internalised through the st botella stanley ories and images theyve received through popular culture .Its website adds:  Fictional stereotypes of night stalkers, dark-alley attackers, serial killers and menacing strangers are dangerously misleading when 90% of rapists are known to the victim and the majority of women murdered knew their killer.  The legal battle that exposed Adam Werritty s role at the heart of government has been settled by a high stanley kubek  court judge. The case brought by the Ministry of Defence and Dubai businessman Harvey Boulter against US Post-it note maker 3M ultimately forced Liam Fox, the former defence secretary, to reveal his reliance on Werritty, his best man and firm friend of 13 years. On Monday the judge, Mr Justice Hambleden, ruled in favour of Boulter and MoD in the dispute over the development of MRSA detection technology, called BacLite, which the pair sold to 3M in  stanley cup canada 2007. The ruling found that 3M was in  materia stanley travel mug l breach of its obligations  and awarded the MoD and Boulter s private equity firm Porton Group $1.3m  拢800,000  in damages, significantly below the $40m they had sought. The case was discussed at the now infamous meeting between Fox, Werritty and Boulter at a five-star hotel in Dubai this summer. The MoD s failure to account for that meeting on the 41st floor of the Shangri-la hotel exposed Werritty as Fox s unofficial adviser and triggered a possible blackmail lawsuit which could involve the former defence secretary giving evidence to a US court. After Monday s ruling, 3M lawyers repeated the blackmail claims, alleging that Boulter  participated in an illegal campaign to extort more than $34m from 3M to settle the BacLite case prior to a final judgment or else Boulter and [Lanny] Davis would use their influence with recently resigned UK minister for defence Dr Liam Fox to

Numerous studies have found that deer can readily contract the coronavirus. Last November, for instance, researchers from Penn State University and elsewhere reported that up to a third of free-living and captive deer in Iowa carried traces of the virus from late 2020 to early 2021. Some of these same researchers from Penn State and others, including those with the New York City Department of Parks  038; Recreation, have released their latest findings this week on the preprint website bioRxiv.     The team tested blood and nasal samples from wild deer living on Staten Island that were  temporarily captured as part of a sterilization program to keep the population in check. The samples were collected between December 2021 and January 2022, and the scientists performed antibody and RNA tests on them. Overall, 14.5% of 131 deer that had their blood taken tested positive for antibodies to the coronavirus, indicating a prior infe stanley cup ction. About 10% of the 68 deer that had nasal swabs taken tested positive for an acute infection. And when the researchers sequenced the genetics of these positive samples, they found that some had caught the Omicron variant, the most transmiss stanley cup ible version of the coronavirus to emerge yet. The Omicron found in these deer bore a close genetic resemblance to Omicron stra stanley thermosflasche ins found in human residents of the city, all but confirming that humans had somehow been the source of the deer infections.  These surprising results, published today across two studies in the European Journal of Criminology and the stanley us  Journal of Experimental Criminology, shows theres still lots to learn about body-worn cameras and how they should be used.     According to the new research, assault rates against officers jumps by 15 percent when body-worn cameras are used. Whats more, and contrary to conventional belief, the rate of violence imposed by cops on citizens is not influenced by the presence of body-worn cameras. But鈥攁nd this is a big but鈥攊f officers switched their cameras on and off during their shift  i.e. discretionary use , the likelihood that they would use physical force increased. If they kept their cameras rolling, on the other hand, the rates of police violence decreased. Body-worn cameras are increasingly being seen as a way to reduce police violence and assaults on officers. The general consensus out there鈥攂oth among the public and police鈥攊s that body-worn surveillance technologies will make police more accountable, which should result in safer streets for everyone. Trouble is, theres a surprising lack of data to support this claim. Investigations in Seattle and New Orleans have been mixed, but these devices have resulted in the indictment of k stanley cup iller cops. Moreover, these devices are often used to protect police officers, and in many cases, cops are blatantly refusing  either actively o stanley bottle r passively  to use these devices, whether they be bodycams, dashcams, or other cop-tracking tec
