 The Screenwriters  Festival  July 1-3  continues to add high-profile speakes to its line-up. New to the programme is novelist/playwright/screenwriter Ronald Harwood, who will interviewed onstage by psychiatrist Raj Persaud.  Irish co-production Song For A Raggy Boy got off to an excellent start in Ireland at the weekend. The $147,000  Euros 126,512/ 拢88,324  opening weekend was enough to get the drama 11th place in the UK/Ireland chart despite playing on just 36 prints in the Republic Of Ireland.With a screen average of $4,100 director Aisling Walsh s film is the latest success at home for an Irish film following high profile releases through BVI for Veronica Guerin and Intermission. Song For A Raggy Boy is released in Ireland by Abbey Films with international sales handled by Lolafilms. It has yet to find a UK distributor.Based on a true story, Song For A Raggy Boy tells the story of one man s courage to fight the tough regime  stanley cup in a boys Irish Reformatory School in 1939 where he teaches. It stars Aidan Quinn stanley kubek  and Iain Glen.Elsewhere in the chart, BVI saw a double whammy taking $14.4m  拢8.6m  from Finding Nemo and Kill Bill Vol.1 combined. Going wide this week the first instalment of Quentin Tarantino s Kill Bill took $4.5m  拢2.7m  from 372 sites.Fox s The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen  LXG  and Warner Bros  Mystic River also enjoyed strong openings. LXG s launch figures include previews of $312,940  拢187,138  from 267 sites.The percentage drop for Cabin Fever reflects second weekend against first weekend plus previews.
