 Several silent films from the BFI National Archive will screen at the Phoenix Square in Leicester, Watershed in Bristol and the Arts Picturehouse in Cambridge.The BFI will  stanley cup present The Last Appeal and The Jest from the Grand Guignol series; The Final Problem from The La stanley uk st Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Silver Buddha fr stanley cup om The Mystery of Dr Fu Manchu series as part of the Silent Sensations Programme. Live piano will accompany the screenings. Bryony Dixon, BFI National Archive Curator and Programmer, has facilitated the events to make silent film more accessible to audiences. The Silent Sensations programme is part of the BFIs two-month Long Live Film initiative to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the BFI National Archive.The first screening of Silent Sensations will run at Phoenix Square on July 11.  The Cannes Film Festival came down hard this week on a hapless blogger who published a faux competition lineup. But, as Thierry Fremaux made clear, Cannes is a serious business and tomfoolery will not be tolerated.Ah, Cannes. Its that special time of year again when speculation mounts about the films which will make it into competition on the Croisette, and, with the  stanley cup lineup announcement set for April 19, we only have a fortnight to wait. Cannes is a very important event, there is no doubt about it. That Cannes takes itself very seriously was also never in doubt, but we got a whiff of just how seriously this week when festival director Thierry Fremaux came down hard on a French blogger who had created a bogus competition lineup as an April Fools Day prank and claimed it was accidentally leaked by the festival.  Its disgusting,  Fremaux responded with outrage to Hollywood website Deadline.  There i stanley germany s a code of conduct for Cannes and it must be respected.  Fremaux wasnt getting much respect from Deadlines smartass commenters, many lambasting what they perceived as the festivals pomposity. Screen had chosen to cover the bloggers prank with rather a lighter touch, and I was amused by the faux list which included several films that couldnt possibly be ready in time for Cannes. Sadly for him, the blogger now presumably joins Lars Von Trier on stanley kubek  the festivals Persona Non Grata blacklist. Such hype and high-jinks of course are part of the hysteria that Cannes stirs up each year. The fest
