Azithromycin is used to treat certain bacterial infections in different parts of the body. This medicine may mask or delay the symptoms of syphilis. It is not effective against syphilis infections. azithromycin belongs to the macrolide class of antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth. However, this medicine is not effective against the common cold, the flu, or other viral infections. Azithromycin is used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, s*xually transmitted diseases (STDs), and infections of the ears, lungs, sinuses, skin, throat, and reproductive organs. It is also used to treat or prevent disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection. Azithromycin belongs to the macrolide class of antibiotics. It works by inhibiting bacterial growth.
