This year, 20 breeders from 7 countries have entered the contest with a total of 85 varieties distributed in the following categories: 27 Hybrid Tea, 37 Floribunda, 9 Shrub, 3 Ground Cover and 9 Climbing. The participating breeders send their unpublished varieties with 2 or 3 years in advance, depending on the variety in question. During the time in which the new varieties are grown in the Rose Garden - from their planting until they participate in the competition - a permanent commission of experts monitors the rose bushes, assessing their vigor, flowering and reflowering, resistance to climate and diseases and fragrance.
